Beyond beige: building a warm, layered palette that lasts

September 24, 2026 · By Numbi Gichuki

Neutral does not have to mean flat. Create depth with tone, touch and the natural character of Kenyan light.

A warm palette is less about choosing one shade of cream and more about building a conversation between materials. Consider chalky plaster beside honey-toned wood, a woven blind against a soft wall, or stone that reveals a little movement instead of looking perfectly uniform.

When we develop a palette, we test it at different times of day. Nairobi’s sun is generous and direct; a colour that feels subtle in a showroom can become intense near a bright window. Samples belong on the actual wall, beside the actual floor, before a final decision is made.

Layering makes a space more forgiving. A careful mix of matte and sheen, smooth and tactile, lets the room evolve as furniture, books and memories are added.
